Uninstalled app, can't reinstall

At one point I'd downloaded the Dolphin browser to my Droid, and then uninstalled it. I was recently going to try it again, but when I went to the market, it said it was already installed. When I went to Manage Applications to uninstall it again, it wasn't in the list.

I've been messing around with the contents of my SD card, and I wonder if I did something to get this app into some strange state. Anybody have any suggestions?

Did you have the app backed up to your sd card using an app manager?

If so, then just open any file browser that you may use.

Once in the sd card you will see a folder titled something along the line of "backups," or the folder might be named for the app manager you use. Open that folder.

Once inside you'll see all of the apps you have backed up. Look for the Dolphin Browser .apk, and you should be able to delete it.

That should take care of the problem.

If not, then the only other thing I can think of is doing a factory reset of your phone. I would only do this though if you use something like MyBackup Pro, Sprite Backup, etc. Unless you enjoy setting everything in your phone to the way it was.

I hope I was able to help in some way. And if anyone else has a definite answer to this issue, then please post it so I know what to do if this happens to me too.

Using a file manager, I can't find a .apk file for Dolphin anywhere on my SD card. Not worth doing a factory reset for this, but it's darn annoying.

I found this, but it sounds like you need root access:
Solving the Android "Grayed Out Application" Deadlock

I guess I'm SOL unless I want to wipe everything.

From what I understood, you do need root to do that.

Do ou have an app that backs up your phone's system settings, call log, sms, etc. (e.g. MyBackup Pro, Sprite Backup, etc.)? If you do, then wiping won't be too much of a hassle. If you don't then I would recommend getting one of them. Comes in handy when you need to wipe the phone.

i have this same issue with the woot program. I was blaming the app but i guess it has nothing to do with the app. hope we can find a way to fix this!
