Unique Notification Sounds

I'm on Marshmallow v6.0 on a Huawei Honor 5x. I would like to assign different notification sounds for things like voicemail, Facebook, Calendar, ringtone, Instagram, Words with Friends, etc. I'm especially needing a unique notification sound for voicemail since T-Mobile is working on upgrading the cell towers near my apartment and the only way I know I've missed a call is by voicemail (it sucks); it'll be a month before their done working on it. In the meantime, when my elderly neighbor needs assistance and calls, half the time I don't get the call, no missed call notification, and if I don't look at my phone, I don't notice that a voicemail has arrived. All notifications sound the same.
So, is there an operating system level way to control notification sounds per app? Also, I don't have a voicemail app, so do I just have to change every other apps' notification in order to make voicemail unique?
 
Have you looked in your phone app's settings? I would guess that that is what produces voicemail notifications, and mine at least lets me set a separate notification tone for them.

There isn't a system-wide way to set all apps' notifications. System settings are for the system, apps can choose their own notifications and so to change those you look in the apps' own settings.

I think that an app called "Light Flow" might be able to manage all notifications, with customisation, but that would also mean that any it can't handle may not get any at all. You could look into that. Personally just set them app by app - though you may find some, whether lazy or arrogant, who don't give you that option.
 
Light Flow will change colors or make the phone blink. There are Ringtone makers that will cut you a short ring. If the apps allow it, you can change most. I have different ringtones for chatty friends, family and business plus another for pests. The Ringtone maker will also assign them.

You might run into file difficulties with ringtones, notifications and media. The phone looks for the right folders so if you change it, you might not find it. If you use a Ringtone app that does both notifications and rings the app might get the files straight.

You would also have to be able to set reminder time. Some phones are once and done. The light will blink until you check, then the message is gone.

I have no voicemail app, or at least not one that I can find.

I not looking for a different ringtone when the phone rings. I'm looking for a different sound when voicemail arrives, something different than notification sounds for other apps.

On most phones, that is a notification sound for voicemail. I don't have voicemail either (by choice)
but the phone does ring.

My phone doesn't ring because T-Mobile is working on the cell towers by my apartment and won't be completed until May 10th. Didn't you read that in my OP?
 
Try Google Voice. You can just get/use it for voicemail and set any tone you want.

It's a powerful tool but just at it's most basic may be something that could solve your issue.

I did read that. I also use Chinese phones but from OPPO who has the One Plus. It does have all of those requirements and settings. TMO usually doesn't interfere with much as I've also use European Nokia phones. I don't like all the extra stuff on the carrier sponsored phones.

The point I was trying to make is that any audio type file you add to the phone, you have to put it in the right folder. Used to be you just added a ringtone folder under media and that was all. Notifications went in there, too. That agrees with Hadron. Every company is doing its own thing. Go find a manual for the phone.
