I'm an American web developer currently living in France and I do a lot of travelling. I'm trying to find a phone and I'm nearly sure the Milestone 2 is what I'm looking for.

My question is basically, can the Milestone 2 handle all the bands around the globe? And if not, can someone point me in the right direction for such a phone?

My requirements:
QWERTY keyboard
Unlocked for pre-paid SIM/data
Ability to run a bash or similar shell for SSH/Vi

I've read a lot of forums/info sites and I see some conflicting information about carrier's and bands so I have a bit of confusion. I could care less which American carrier I use when I'm in the states, the same goes for overseas though I suppose I'd prefer Orange or Swisscom. I really really just need a phone I can do some work on. I like the DROID os, but I'm not particular as long as I can be a command line monkey.

It has bands for GSM networks all over the world. It will not work with CDMA networks and will not get 3G signal in the US.

Can you point me to a phone that can handle CDMA as well and potentially 3G in the states? I don't want to be dataless when I'm in the US.

There are no phones with both CDMA and GSM 3G capabilities.

This does not mean however, that you will be left dataless. It only means you will be getting slower speeds.
