Unknown android app icon on status bar

Hi Guys,

Please help identify this android app icon which appeared on the status bar of my phone. It looks like a a square chat icon with a lightning inside. I tried replicating the issue by opening other messengers like FB, Whatsapp, Google Allo but it doesn't work so I'm not sure if the icon is related to a chat app.

Here's the icon encircled in red from a screenshot. Would highly appreciate it if someone can get back to me soon. Thanks in advance.

The lightning bolt looks like Facebook's Messenger to me, and though the app icon is round I think that the notification is more square. So that would be my first guess.

But if there's a notification up there you should also have a corresponding on when you slide the notification panel down, and you can use that to identify the app.

HI Hadron,

Thanks for the reply. I tried to recreate the same scenario when opening my FB messenger but that icon on the status bar does not reappear again so I'm not really sure what that icon represents.

Did you receive any Facebook messages when you had it open? Because that is what the notification icon for messenger looks like when you do.

If it's on your phone just pull down the status bar and you'll see expanded versions of all the notifications. You have a ton of unopened ones there. The icon will be beside the label of the app that sent it.

Also, that's just Facebook Messenger. If you have set Facebook Messenger to handle SMS, that's how the SMS notification icon should look like.

You're right. My FB messenger is also my default app to send SMS/text messages. Thanks for clearing this up.
