I downloaded am app on the playstore called mp3 cutter.
I now keep having ads pop up even when sitting idle on the homescreen with all apps closed.
I have run a security scan which picks nothing up. The symbol of the app is a solid red pentagon with a white magnifying glass. I cannot see anything like it when i search google for any refrences. This is very frustrating.

Sounds like an ad process that came with this "free" MP3 cutter app. Suggest you uninstall the offending MP3 cutter app, and the ads should be gone. Then leave it a scathing Play Store review, and if necessary report it as well.

I checked the play store for "mp3 cutter" and none of the apps named that had a pentagon icon.
