Root Unknown icons appeared in status bar - can't get rid of them

Hi,

I have a ZTE Blade with Swedish Snow RLS7.

Yesterday some strange icons appeared in the status bar and I can't get rid of them.

Unfortunately, I can neither link nor add an image, which will make it hard to identify the icons... The three icons are at the top left in the status bar (looks like a home icon, a settings icon and an arrow).

I installed a couple of apps for tracking cell phone coverage yesterday, then uninstalled them. That is possibly the cause of the problem, but reinstalling and uninstalling again makes no difference. Restarting the phone also makes no difference.

Any ideas about what these icons are doing there or how to get rid of them?

Many thanks,

Hi,

Rooted with Swedish Snow RLS7.

The icons do nothing as far as I can tell. There are also no corresponding notifications.

My best guess is that they are from the rom. The look like soft buttons that you would use if you didn't have the physical home, menu, back and search buttons. I bet if you searched in the settings of the rom you would see something about them.

Yup, they are definitely part of the ROM, just did a quick search and found this description of the Swedish Snow Rom:

-volume key music controls. When screen is off and music is playing long press on volume up/down keys changes next/prev music track. (thanks to CyanogenMod)
-statusbar brightness control. Sliding on closed statusbar changes screen brightness (thanks to daryelv)
-lockscreen displays next alarm time from any app
-volume key cursor controls. Volume up/down keys can be used as d-pad left/right when in text fields. (thanks to azuwis)
-disabled scrolling cache (inspired by AndroidON)
-long press on back key kills foreground app. I've increased the long press delay to three times normal so this can't be used by accident. Use with caution, only for misbehaving apps! (thanks to CyanogenMod)
-change ringer mode (volume/vibrate/silent) using volume keys froyo style. (thanks to mkasick)
-checkbox preference for long press back key kills foreground app. Delay still three times normal.
-checkbox preference for volume key cursor controls
-statusbar software keys. HOME, MENU and BACK softkeys with long press functions. (thanks to CyanogenMod)
-checkbox preference for statusbar sofkeys. You need to reboot your phone for this setting to take effect.
-framework patch to support MVNOs (mobile virtual network operators). I'm not held responsible for any roaming charges. (Inspired by leromarinvit)
-checkbox preference for MVNO roaming. This equals ticking 'national roaming' box in CM7. You need to reboot your phone or use airplane mode for the setting to take effect.
-swipe to clear notifications. Individual notifications can be cleared by swiping them to left or right (thanks to CyanogenMod)
-VOLUME UP key works as shutter button in camera app. Pressing the key focuses and releasing the key takes the photo. VOLUME UP key also starts/stops recording in camcorder.
-display correct kernel info in 'About phone'
-new Adreno libs to increase 3D performance
-checkbox preference for call connect vibrate
-extended partition info (used/total space on each partition) in ROM settings (thanks to squadzone)
-much more...

Should be somewhere in the settings to turn off, if you can't find it I would suggest finding the developers thread (http://www.modaco.com/topic/352156-romzte-skateblade-port-swedish-snow-rls7-13apr2012/) and post there to find out how to turn it off.

AHA!

Thanks Mostly Harmless.

There is an option to disable/enable these buttons, but it doesn't appear to work without rebooting the device...

Not convinced that I did enable them, at least not intentionally, but the evidence is against me.

And the icons are actually tiny little buttons that replicate the behaviour of the physical buttons on the device - quite pointless.

All sorted now!

Many thanks for your help.
