unlimited quick messaging phone text/data plan to unlocked nexus s??

i have a samsung eternity, which is a "quick messaging phone". i have the unlimited text/data plan with it for $30. if i get the new unlocked nexus s with Att 3g bands, can i pop the sim in and use my current data/text plan? or will i be "forced" to change it to a data plan, and then get a text plan?

why would i need a smartphone data plan???? the phone is sold unlocked... att doesnt carry the phone, hence not knowing the IMEI number... why couldnt i swap sim cards, and use the data plan i already have???

I'm not 100% sure but I think the system will pick up on your sim being in a smartphone whether or not you give them the imei. I only say this cause my cousin tried it moving from a samsung impression to a smartphone can't remember which phone but she got it off ebay I think it was unlocked. The next day online it showed her phone as the new smartphone with the 200mb data plan, no longer her unltd non smartphone plan. Later she ended up getting a text saying she didn't have the appropriate plan for the device she was using and it had been changed for her.

If they detect it they automatically add the lowest offered plan available so that would be the 200mb plan.

see my friend has att... he had a regular phone and got a text/data plan for it.... he then went on ebay and bout an unlocked nokia n8 which att does not sell. he put his sim in, and has been using all this data and text without getting charged anymore than the same as if he had his "regular" phone

ya but then i might as well get an iphone 4 in white, and HAVE to get the 200 mb data plan... i really hope i can find out from a nexus s user and see if when they log into there att account if the picture of the phone and name of device show up, i cant see how they could tell if they dont have the IMEI number

I believe the 1st responder to this post has a nexus s for att. I wanted a nexus s but don't want to pay that much out of pocket right now.
