Root Unlock Bootloader

Newbie
Please help me to unlock the bootloader on my DEFY, so I can install CM 7.1, or another ROM. When I try and flash the ROM, I get the android symbol and an exclamatiom mark underneath it. I assume it is because I have a locked bootloader.

HalfAnAndroid - I've been looking for you and not found very much. I've seen one post on a thread on the Motorola Owner's Forums (https://supportforums.motorola.com/message/337212) that may help you... it's the second post down on the page I've just put a link for.

I have linked this, as the guy from the second post mentions what sounds like the same screen as you are talking about.

Have a look at that and let me know if it helps you!!

Thank you for trying to help me. He also says if you have rooted, things likoe factory reset doesn't work, which could mean rooting damages the bootloader and so you can't flash the ROM and do a factory reset. When I get onto that screen as well, Iy out too have to pull the battery out too.
 
Really sorry... I'm not sure what to advise and I wouldn't want to suggest something that either doesn't work for you or makes things worse!

I have had a real search on the net and cannot find anything on unlocking the bootloader (yet)... there was a lot saying that it "could" happen "at some point", but I've not seen anything to say it IS possible.

this helped me except for the actual iinstallation i just placed the rom on my sd card instead of unzipping it

no problem bro I had to do the same it really annoyed me but i figure that i should help some of the peeps who dont understand because i was once one of them :)
