How exactly do unlock codes work? Will it be like; I buy a phone locked into a contract then I use the code and the phone will no longer require a contract? If not; how do they work and are they safe? I'm thinking of getting an S3.
Unlock code basically unlock the phone so that you can use it with any network. You are still bound to the contract though. It is absolutely safe, no need to worry. Unlock code can be provided to you by the carrier itself. The other way is to root the phone and use an app like this one:
