Unlock s3 on three network

I'm buying a galaxy s3 from a mate at work which is on three and Im using Tesco, can three network s3's be unlocked? I heard that some three network phones can't be.

Ofcom said a few years back that as long as the phone has been used on a particular network for more than 3 months (or something similar, I forget the exact ruling), the network are legally bound to unlock it if you request it.

That being said, they will charge you an arm and a leg for it.

Whenever I've needed a handset unlocked, I use eBay. This guy has served me well in the past: rst-gsm on eBay

You'll need to search his items to see if he references the S3 specifically though (he should do).
