unlocked g1 wanting to root

i just got my unloocked g1 running on AT&T
and was wondering can i root it with out it relocking its self again?
has anyone wth an unlocked g1 tried to root/has rooted the phone without any trouble?

Rooting has nothing to do with the simlock. If you choose to root it it wont relock it.

ok i decide to do it earlier this morning
let me note that im an running it with out a data plan on att
i did and it started over to when you first get the phone
so i had to take it all the way back to rc29 so i could activate it over wi-fi
