Unlocked Phone Usage

Hey peeps. I'm looking into getting a different phone. I kinda want to use Straight Talk, I'm on Boost right now, ST is cheaper and friends have told me ST works fine where I live. So, I went to ST website and had to enter zip code and they pretty much only have junk iPhones available for the area. A few Androids but not what I'm looking for. I'm wondering if I buy an unlocked phone off eBay or wherever, will it work or be able to be hooked up through ST? For example, if I want to get an unlocked Galaxy S4, will they be able to hook it up with full functionality?
Thanks

I've moved your thread into the Straight Talk Carrier Discussion subforum, so that ST customers can tell you exactly what's up.

I don't use Straight Talk, but I believe that any unlocked GSM phone should work just fine - wait for confirmation though! :)

It would be wise to match up phone you get to the sim you order from St. Get a T-Mobile sim for a T-Mobile phone and / or an att sim for att phone. I would not get a cdma phone unless it is a St phone.

Same thing here after putting in zip code =crappy phones,, I went to walma*t and got the galaxy s3 3g on Verizon towers and love it,, check and see if they have it in your area, it is awesome

I use an unlocked phone with straight talk. I have for about 2 yrs now. I bought the sim (at&t) from straight talk for $7. I have the nexus 5 right now. Had the galaxy nexus before that (will give that to my kids).

In the BYOD section on their website, you can find out if your phone will work. I own an unlocked Note 2 and am considering ST, NET10, AIO or just continuing w/Tmobile

I stuck it out with the Warp Sequent and waiting for GS5 to come to boost. Gonna be nice and pricey but I really like it. It's between the GS5 or HTC ONE. Although the HTC ONE has a junk camera on it, like a 4.2mp is the main camera, not that good. GS5 has like a 15 or 16mp HD camera. That's a good selling point , for me anyways.

If you have the numbers off the phone under the battery (IMEI ??) there is a spot to input that on the straight talk site and it will tell you if it works. Their support people will swear verizon phones don't work but they will if unlocked it just has to support gsm band. It's sometimes a techie project to get data and mms texts going if it wasn't originally at& t or tmobile and don't expect a lot of help from them on an unlocked phone, most barely speak english and read from scripts. I just got an unlocked verizon kyocera hydro elite going with them I learned all about rooting and hacking android for the last few days I went with the at&t towers better coverage at my house. If you get an unlocked phone check that settings let you change the apn easily, if you have no options for that you will probably have to root the phone and get a couple of different utilities to hack the apn list and settings. It was an adventure but if you find that fun like I debit was worth it.
