Unlocking S8 from CDMA to GSM

I bought a phone from TracPhone(CDMA provider) and want to use it on ATT(GSM provider). I called TracPhone and they said the phone is already unlocked and that I can use a different carrier. But when I put my ATT sim card the phone does not recognize it. I checked Mobile Networks in settings -> Network mode was set to "CDMA" and there is no option to switch it to GSM.

What Can I do?

Honestly it looks like it's locked to Verizon. Their phones work on a different wavelength to everyone' else's. The radio just doesn't work. Or are there little providers who work in the same wavelength? You still in your 30 day ish return period? If so take it back. Don't take my word for this but I'm pretty sure the international supports the at&t wavelengths. Maybe try that :)

You have two options..it may be not unlocked..if so, just get one of those unlock venues..like Ideanopics(I'm leaving the app for you to download..they charge just $34 for the unlock..very reliable..and it's for a lifetime..it worked for me)

Second option..it may likely already be unlocked..BUT..you have to fix or manipulate the bands of the phone..that happens with GSM..it's a little complicated to get it going and unstable too(the only way I was able to get it stable was with the unlock app I mentioned about)..but once you do is fast..I also uploaded for you the YouTube video to set up the bands..either way, enjoy them.

Let me know.

Chances are it could've already been unlocked (technically). As long as you're on the same wavelength as the CDMA you could use it on any provider that uses that wavelength. It's the the same as an unlocked GSM phone being able to work on any GSM network. Try and mix them and the built in radio firmware just don't work :)

Hello
ok, but as it does not work in cdma it suffic to pass in gsm with service codes. then you can always add the frequency bands.

What these guys don't seem to realize is that an S8 is an either/or phone. It can be set to use either CDMA or GSM. If it doesn't immediately recognize your carrier, go to Settings > Connections > Mobile Network. You can choose either CDMA or GSM, but the preferred setting is Automatic. That way it will adapt based on what SIM you put in.

Usually yes, but apparently there's some US carrier variants(like Tracphone or Verizon) that are locked to CDMA modes, and GSM is intentionally disabled by certain carriers.

Something else to be aware of, if one has an Exynos variant S8, that are sometimes imported into the US, those do NOT have CDMA modes at all. CDMA is only used in China, Japan and US.
