Unlocking Samsung Galaxy J3 Achieve

I bought 2 used identical J3 Achieve phones and Boost in 2020 was able to get one of them activated, but since the 5G implemented they no longer support the phone. I am able to use Mint mobile with it, however the other phone is locked and it seems the only way to get it unlocked is by paying for it.

That's ok though but i need a trustworthy place to do it. Is there any good options/places to unlock the phone so I can use this other one with Mint?

And yes I learned my mistake to not buy phones that I can't unlock on my own. I don't think Boost will unlock it because you need to have service for 12 months, kind of a problem when you cant even register the device.

The phone is about 7 years old. The specs are terrible https://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_j3_(2016)-7760.php I don't think it would be worth paying an unlocking service. You might as well try calling Boost Mobile and see what they say, probably NO with out 12 months of service, but it's worth a try. Good Luck!

Addendum: I just noticed on the gsmarena site it says model, "J320P (Sprint, Virgin Mobile, Boost)" If you have that model number it probably won't work with Mint because those are CDMA carriers not a GSM carrier which Mint is. Just a thought.

That link to a different model variation (Galaxy J3), the OP is asking about a Galaxy J3 Achieve (SM-J337P)

Sprint was based on a CDMA cellular network, but Boost (OP's previous carrier) contracts with both AT&T and T-Mobile (GSM networks) and Mint (OP's intended carrier) with T-Mobile.

Essentially the OP is asking about how to manually force unlock a Boost carrier-locked phone to bypass paying them more to do what it's legally obligated to do as long as the OP has no unpaid billing.

svim got it right. Since I got 2 identical phones one of them is already connected to Mint Mobile so the other one would work, if the phone wasn't locked

It's also unlikely Boost will unlock it due to me never having that phone on their service. It wont hurt to ask them though. Some sites show you could pay to have it unlocked but I don't know how trustworthy it is. The existing phone works fine, so I just wanted the other phone ready in case something happens I wouldn't have to buy a $200+ phone in order to continue using my phone service, I'd just swap it to the other phone. I do have another phone on Boost, they gave me a phone on discount to replace the Galaxy J3 Achieve.

You should have started out with that statement. You need to contact the actual carrier of that carrier-locked phone. Boost can't unlock it for you even it is choose to do so.

Read my initial comment. First and last paragraph.
OK but in all your postings you still continue to refer to Boost even though you already have some kind of expectation it won't unlock this non-Boost phone. If you are aware it's just a non-issue than why continue to keep referring to it?

Oh stop with the bickering. I gotta reset my password every time I visit the site and have a ton of other issues. If you don't have a solution other than "try calling Boost" then why do you keep responding? Just stop!!
