Unread Message Notifications on Motorola Droid?

I just got a Droid today and am enjoying it so far, but one issue I've been having is I want to be able to know when I have an unread message without having to unlock the phone.

My last phone had a setting that allowed me to set a tone or alert that would go off every 2, 5 or 10 minutes while I had an unread or un-listened-to message on my phone, so even if I missed the first alert I would still notice when I had something new.

Is there any apps that allow for this?

Much closer to what I'm looking for, still can't find anything to notify me if I've missed an IM...

The green blinking LED isn't enough of an indication?

What do you mean? I don't have that option, not with the IM program that the guy at the store I bought the phone at downloaded for me. Only thing I can find through Missed Calls is the option to have ALL applications leave a blinking light, not just IMs, and it has to be the same color light as missed calls leaves as well, so just glancing at the phone doesn't show me which I've missed.
