unsolicited downloads

Lurker
I suddenly have a new problem with my HTC droid incredible phone. Starting on March 1 And occurring about every two weeks I am getting large Unsolicited downloads. I work in a secure area where I do not have cell phone access during the day. About every two weeks when I leave work there is an instant large download. Sometimes it is 90 MB, Another time it was 32MB and And the last time it was 73 MB. I am on a limited data plan Of 150 MB per month with Verizon. This is eating up my allotment. When I checked to see what was doing this I get the following applicationa listed as having done this download.

android.media: 10027

I have no idea what this is. Verizon tech support can't help me. HTC tech support was useless. Searching the Internet got me nothing. Does anybody know what this application is and what it does. I would also like to know how I can control or eliminate it and prevent all my allotment for being used up.

Sounds like malware from one of the apps. The solution is usually going through all your apps and deleting them and/or checking the reviews in the market to see if anyone else is having this problem.

If you downloaded an app that contains malware or spyware, you should download an antivirus app. I recommend Lookout security & antivirus. It's a free antivirus app that protects your phone and removes apps that are infected with malware or spyware and if you upgrade to premium, you can find your phone if lost or stolen via GPS and remotely wipe it too. You can even back up all your pictures and contacts with it. But I would just get where's my droid because, it does that stuff minus the malware protection for free. It also has a scream feature, that allows you to hear the phone if nearby. Here's the link if you want to check it out. https://market.android.com/details?...esult#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5sb29rb3V0Il0.

I have always thought about d/l Lookout but when I read the reviews something always put me off. I guess I'm too careful. I'm anal with my computer too.

I have Lookout on my phone and it never game me trouble, or did it ever find anything but, it's always good to have one.

Shortly after getting my Droid 2 I started getting unsolicited text messages and phone calls. I looked for an app and found Easy Filter. I bought the Pro version so I don't have to keep d/l it when I change phones. I'm not bothered anymore.

I did some further investigation using an app called traffic monitor.
It lists the following info
android.media:10027
UID = 10027 (what is this)
Media storage
DRM protected content storage
Download Manager

is this a legit application. If so what does it do and why would it download without my permission

Sometimes people (new to IT :D) send me big GB videos from their PCs.
Then my email works without fail but it trys to download in background for days. When I look at the data counter I see about 300MB download per day for 3G and WiFi

So I set my email settings for to catch just title of mail and then I delete this email. Then I set email back to no limit.

I looked at the description of easy filter and it appears to be for phone calls and text messages. Doesn't seem to apply for 3g data downloads. I am still vexed by this problem. No help from my provider Verizon. I have now turned 3G off. I am still struggling to get a handle on this. I have downloaded 3 traffic monitoring programs. none of them identify the app that is downloading these large data dumps to my phone.
