Update from Andriod 2.3.3 to 4.0

The other day my mum bought a random tablet from a car boot sale which is running android 2.3.3 with no option for software update.

Is there anyway i can manually update it? I've seen a few tutorials that say it's doable via a SD card, but all the tutorials are for specific phones.

Doubtful. You have another of the million generic Chinese tablets. You need SPECIFIC software for your tablet. Those types of devices never get support.

You also have another generic garbage device. When will people learn? Even IF you can manage to get it rooted, there will be zero custom ROMs

I have an LG Phone and would like to know if it's possible to upgrade it to a newer version?

Model Number: LG-P999
Android Version: 2.3.3
Software Version: LG-P999-V21e

most of the generics come rooted out of the box (Trio 4.3 tablets fit this description) but yea, Custom ROMs are for those willing to use the device as a guinea pig. you *might* get a working but unstable ROM on it, (such as a CM nightly) with a simple updater-script hack to disable the sanity check, providing the ROM fits the generic specs for CPU (examine the Build.prop) and whatnot. or you might end up with a brick.
