Update keeps postponing overnight install

Maybe its me, but every update I get, I choose update overnight, I awake the next day and it has been postponed. This is a continuous cycle until I install right then and there. I've had other phones do this to me as well. What's the point in asking to do it overnight for it to be automatically postponed? Why give me the option? Been dealing with this for years.
 
To be absolutely clear, you mean a system update? Because an app update is also a software update.

The funny thing is that you have had this option on several devices, while I don't recall ever seening it on any of mine. Anyway it clearly doesn't work, so I'd not bother with it and just choose a time that suits you.
 
Let me try to be more clear..
For yrs of owning samsung galaxy phones, I assume through some error of my own that I can't figure out, whenever there is a system update (in this case, more specifically a software update) it gives me 3 options. I always choose "I stall overnight" but when I wake up it has been postponed. Every single time. My phone can be plugged in, fully charged, not plugged in, etc this will be the end result. My question is why give me the option of when I want to install the update if I can only update it "now"? I have been trying to install overnight for days. And it keeps getting postponed.

Some system updates wont apply unless there is a certain amount of battery... 60 or 80 percent

Do you charge overnight?
 
FWIW I've never done the Install Overnight option with OTA updates. So I wouldn't know if that works or not. Either I do Install Now, or sometimes Later if it's not currently convenient or whatever. Basically because I prefer and feel more confident to actually watch it update.
 
A quick web search suggests that this is indeed a Samsung feature. None of my current or past phones have had an "install overnight" option, and as my Samsung tablet has only had 2 OTA updates in the 5 years I've had it, the last one 3 years ago, I've no memory of whether it had the option either. Hence I can't say whether your experience is typical or unusual.

Just a speculation, but does your WiFi stay connected when the phone goes into deep sleep? A lot of phones are set to only download system updates over WiFi (as they can be large), so I could imagine that if the WiFi disconnected overnight the update could fail. Just a guess, but maybe check through your WiFi settings (including any advanced ones, or power saving options).
