Root update to 4.3

when i update my nexus 7 when download is finished i git a message verification failed . could that be due to being rooted or do i have to do a factory reset or what are the steps thank you
 
It's not because you are rooted, but you must have made one or more changes in /System. If you edited build.prop, or installed Stickmount (changes the debuggerd file), or modified or froze any system apps you will get the error. Your error message on the update identifies the file that failed verification. You'll need to provide that information for anyone to help. You should really search. There are tens if not hundreds of threads on the 4.3 update here and other forums such as XDA.
 
OTA Verifier

This app will tell you what went wrong. The update zip that your N7 pulled down is located in /cache/

When you located it, long press it to choose it and run it.

It will give you a detailed log that will be copied to the clipboard.

Post it here so we can further assist.

i cant find the ota file using the tool? where do i find the cache the one i checked there is no file in there with that name

I believe the OTA zip would be somewhere in /cache although I could be wrong
 
I had this problem, and saw the issue was debuggerd which was modified by stickmount. For some reason uninstall of stickmount didn't bother to put back the debuggerd.backup file, and when I went into recovery and tried to put back the file, it somehow managed to delete both copies (which made for much fun for a while). I eventually got the Nexus 7 4.2.2 system image (wifi version) downloaded, and after many more struggles, got the debuggerd extracted from it and installed in /system/bin.

It seems to finally be updating to 4.3 now (at least is is long past the initial verification stage).

ok i long press on cache then a message pops up that says ota verifier (am i right this far ) but nothing happens after that does it work on 4.2.2 version man i hope i am not a dummy this nexus 7 thing is new to me

Go into /cache/ and long-press the zip inside, using OTA Verifier.
 
hey jmar i got the file being verified but how long does it take ? ota verifier has been processing and evaluating the file for 15 mins already

Sounds like a bad download, which is weird for an OTA. Not sure about that warning. I'll ask around.

It worked for me, but I was already rooted with a custom recovery (TRWP).

I was able to download and install the 4.3 OTA without a problem, which was actually quite a surprise (I was expecting a validation error since I'm rooted). Unfortunately, it appears I've lost root as the result of it, and several of my root apps are now non-functional. Will the procedure outlined at the link above enable me to have a fully rooted 4.3 even if I'm not coming from 4.2, or will there be problems if I flash it as indicated?
