Just found a good widget in the Android Market for K-9 mail called MailWidget (not the most exciting name but who cares). It displays a summary of incoming mail in all K-9 accounts and seems to work quite will despite the usual critical market feedback. it was just updated today. It is not the prettiest widget but it is free and does get the job done. I was looking for something like this and hope you also find it useful.
