Updates and support

Any one else wondering if moto will keep this phone going for 2 years or more with updates hopefully timely at that? What do u guys think?

I think so. This is a different Motorola.

I would think logically it would make sense. But Google has said that Motorola is getting the same treatment as any of their OEM partners. So I am not totally convinced this is going to change yet.

google should keep the updates going pretty well, if you're on verizon you will have to wait for them to be satisfied with what the update is.
and after their months of "testing" on their network to make sure it works...

The update is coming to Verizon soon, according to a comment by Punit Soni (CEO of Motorola) on this Google+ post yesterday (13th comment or so down):

Based on past history, Verizon will always be last. Maybe that will change, but it doesn't appear to be important to Verizon to push updates quickly. If getting quick updates is important to you, let them know when you cancel your service and move to another carrier.

we all know verizons history with updates, but informing them of why we are leaving probably will not change their stance on the matter.

If they don't know why people leave, they won't know what they need to do to fix the problem. If they can put a number on the bottom line that says we would make more money if we were more aggressive about updates, there is at least a chance that they will change.

you may be right but problem with that is only the people here who know about updates would actually use that response.
most of the users that have android phones do not come here for help, they call verizon for help instead. when they leave for the iphone they will never say because they do not get updates. verizon won't ask why, they will just sell that iphone. for another carrier the majority of people would say it is because the bill is so high, or there is no service with verizon where they are but the other network has it.

Having been snowed by Verizon on the Gnex, I'm looking forward to seeing how Moto does on their own.

I bought my phone from Moto directly, so T-Mobile should have almost nothing to say about it.

Hopefully we'll see 4.3 or 4.4 soon. I know 4.3 was in testing already, and a leaked t-mo rom has been floating around xda. But oddly they had performance issues. 4.3 is supposed to have some performance upgrades under the hood to make apps more responsive.

But the best thing people sick of Verizon can do is leave. Whether you tell them or not, leaving and taking your money elsewhere is what's important ;)

Updates being late are bad, but here's another reason I don't think they deserve my money:
Verizon's bid to kill network neutrality law goes to court Monday | Ars Technica

(This is VZ telecom who will soon own all of VZW, they own 50% now).

... but that's a conversation for another thread.

Here's hoping for 4.3 soon, or even better 4.4 :)
