Updating Google info while offline, no data paln

Hi All,

I just purchased a Nexus 5 and I'll take delivery of it in a week or so. Currently all my Contacts, Tasks and Calendar (CTCs) is in Outlook 2007 on a Win7 laptop.

I want to transfer all my Outlook 2007 CTCs to my gmail account.

Here's the twist, I don't want to get a data plan for my Nexus 5. And I want to edit my CTCs when I'm out and about with my Nexus 5 (with no data plan). Then, when I get back home, I want to hit the SYNC button and have all my edits synced up to my gmail account.

So...

Is there some Android app(s) that can import my CTCs from my gmail account. Then let me edit them while I'm out and about with my Nexus 5 (no data plan). Then, when I return home to my local wifi, I hit SYNC and all my CTC edits sync up with my gmail account.

Any Android app(s) can do this?

If I can do this then I can stop using Outlook 2007 which would be nice.

Let me know if I didn't state my question clearly.

Thanks!

I don't think that you'll need any additional apps to do what you need. Google automatically syncs your Contacts, Tasks (well, if you use Keep, and Calendar opportunistically - if you don't have a data connection, changes will be stored locally and then synced once you do connect to the Internet.

Can you explain a little more what you mean by "Calendar opportunistically"? I use my Calendar a lot and it would be great if I could add, edit and delete Calendar events while I'm offline during the day. And then smoothly sync up all the Calendar changes to Gmail Calendar when I get back online at the end of the day.

I looked at Google Keep and it appears that's a way for me to edit my Tasks while offline and then sync them up to Gmail Tasks when I get back online. Is my understanding correct?

And it seems you're saying the Nexus 5 has a built-in Contacts app that works offline and then syncs to Gmail Contacts when I get back online. Do I understand correctly?

I've never used Android so I just want to see if it can do what I want. Thanks!

Yep, most things in Android are synced to your Google account, including Contacts, Calendar, and Tasks (via Keep). I can't remember if Keep is a direct replacement for Tasks in Gmail but I believe it is pretty close.

Brilliant. Thanks! As long as Google Keep syncs up smoothly with my Gmail Tasks, then it looks like I'm all set. This is good news. Currently I don't need a data plan so the details you provided give me confidence that I can get by fine without one. That will save me some money. Maybe in the future I'll get a data plan.

Any way to mark a thread as "Solved"?
