Help Updating to Lollipop on S5 Active AT&T problem

I an trying to update my friends AT&T S5 Active to Lollipop but it keeps failing. His phone has an unlocked symbol on it when it boots up. Is that the problem? Anything will help.

This is a common issue for AT&T and Verizon models. The update will be coming from AT&T and not Samsung and the phone will need to be registered on the AT&T network before the download can be completed. Either borrow an AT&T sim card or insert a PAYG one.

His service is through AT&T also. When he called customer service about the issue the rep did a remote hard reset on his phone and it still only went to 25% and failed.

Has the phone ever been rooted?

never been rooted, im still not able to update it. i have since changed phones but my son has my S5..and id like to update it for him.

Providing the S5 Active is registered on and using the AT&T network, it should update automatically OTA. If not, you will need to visit an AT&T store as their firmwares are not released by or available through, the usual Samsung sites.
