Root Updating with rooted phone

I have 2.2 froyo on my sgs now. I was wondering if I have to unroot to update to 2.2.1 , and if so is there a root for the it?

Updated mine 6 days ago to 2.2.1, I removed previous lagfix and root, then updated, then found the only root that works is SuperOneClickRoot and then OCLF will have it running sweetly

It is better to Unroot and disable any lagfix you have before upgrading, I would go one step further and do a factory reset before the upgrade and one more time after so that you know the phone is in a clean state.
