Unfortunately the only way to update your device without rooting would be to wait for the manufacturer/carrier to release and official update for the device. The chances of this happening really depend on the carrier, the age of the device and how popular the device is. Most phones especially ones with Gingerbread will probably never see a Jellybean OTA.
