Upgrade Advice--Should I wait?

Hey Everyone,

I have a VX6800 Windows phone(Ancient) and my screen finally cracked on me last week. So here is the thing I have been waiting to get a 4g phone from verizon but now that I can only see half my screen I am not sure if I can wait any longer.

So, Should I wait for the 4g phones or should I buy the Droid X and be done with it?

Also, If the 4G phones are released at the CES show next week how long would it takes to be able to get one?

Thanks in Advance for you opinions!

Well I think a lot of people are waiting. I personally just upgraded to a Droid Incredible in November because it was a good price and with the smartphones talk free promotion I get a discount on my monthly bill. That discount wouldn't be there after CES and I didn't want to pay more money for a newer phone with slightly more capabilities.

I would wait. However, take note of what VZW announces at CES. If they announce tiered pricing for LTE, they may grandfather existing unlimited data plan holders into the same unlimited plan for LTE. You may have to upgrade before a particular date to an unlimited plan/smartphone early much like ATT did for the Iphone and Ipad.

If you don't really care what you get, are on a budget, or are planning to jailbreak ASAP then I'd just get a phone now.

Me, I would buy a cheapo dumbphone on ebay or craigslist or one of those prepaid phones and use that while I wait.

Android evolves so quickly that you really need to get the latest and greatest. If you buy the Droid X now, you will have put one foot in the grave already. LTE is around the corner, as is dual-core processors, as is honeycomb. That's the triple threat that is going to make a Droid X feel like a fat, old MicroTAC.

I agree with that, especially at this point in the year (around the first); releases are going to be coming along soon = more choices.

Swooping one of those $29 phones off the internet now seems smart, with the proviso that you'll be jumping on the new 4G Whatever in less than 30 days. ;)
