Upgrade date

Ok here the deal. I know they changed there contract renewal for the full 2 years for a new phone. But let's say you bought a phone back in 2012. Until a few months ago I could do a early upgrade. Can Verizon take away the early renewal for a phone that's on contract? If so, why was i just allowed to do a early upgrade? Did Verizon break contract?

I believe the way Verizon chose to implement the change is that anyone with a contract ending in 2013 will still be able to upgrade early. If your contract end date is January 1, 2014 or later, you will have to wait until that date to be eligible to upgrade.

They can do this because the 20-month upgrade was never a part of the contract. Verizon simply allowed customers at the 20-month mark to start a new contract when purchasing a subsidized phone. Verizon can let you out of the contract early at their option, and they've decided not to do that anymore.
