Upgrade Tips to S5 with Verizon

AAEBoiler

Newbie
I'm looking at upgrading my daughter's phone to an S5. We're on Verizon and I don't want to pay $600+ by going to their store. I see I can buy a Verizon compatible S5 for around $250 on Amazon.

Is there anything I need to be aware of or careful about when I try to buy one via Amazon? I presume I can simply buy it and then take it to the Verizon store and have them configure it and transfer stuff, right? I'm asking here because the Verizon store person wasn't very interested in talking to me over the phone. Thanks!

I would highly suggest that you only buy from www.swappa.com

you have no way to discern if the descriptions in Amazon are even close to correct... it is a leap of faith...

on Swapp.com there is a regimental drill the seller has to go thru before the site will allow the items to be posted, and Swappa verifies that the phones are indeed unlocked and can be used by anyone.

their descriptions are much better....

Thanks AZgl1500, I'll check them out and hopefully make a purchase so my youngest can enjoy the Pokemon GO craze too! :p

Just so happens we have a S5 expert on staff. More than you would ever want to know.
Be sure to research thoroughly before accepting an OTA update. Many S5's just got bumped to MM. There are pro's and con's.

BG260, why wouldn't you want to upgrade to MM?

I didn't say not to. It is always advisable to use the most current software available. Some updates can break certain functions that are desirable. Also if your plan is to play Pokemon having a functional GPS is important.

as well as knowing the exact phone that you are buying;

I own 2 Samsung phones and love them. I also own a Nexus device.

The MM update is likely the last for the S5.
