Help Upgrade to higher version..

I use the android 2.3.6 and i'm very new to android. Regularly i read about higher versions and about upgrading and i would like to upgrade to a newer version but i don't know how and if it's worth it to upgrade to for example 'Ice Cream Sandwich'?

Judging by the sound of your username, and the fact you use Android 2.3.6, I'd guess your device might be one the mid-range Samsung smartphones, something like my Samsung Galaxy Ace. If this is the case, your phone probably doesn't offer the option of upgrading as far as Ice-Cream Sandwich. However, by searching '(Your device name here) android update', you might find there is an available update.

In general, whether or not an update is worth it is a matter of opinion. I personally think the android updates are worth it. Sometimes they offer nice UI improvements, like in ICS, or stability and battery life improvements, in the case of minor updates. However, some find the updating procedure, which varies between devices, too mich of a hassle.

Yes it's a mid-range phone "samsung galaxy s advance i9070". If it's not possible to update to ice cream sandwich.. which is one is available for my phone then from the higher versions?

Jelly bean is normally coming out on the 28th of april, so you'll have to wait until then to 'upgrade'. It is skipping ice cream sandwich and it is jumping to jelly bean straight away.

you can check for update in settings --> about phone --> software update

You sure about that?.."normally" is a word of an optimist..I just see erratic rumours on dates that "normally" gets skipped.. :-(

I'm not sure, but it is already released in Russia in January. All the other countries are getting a little upset from waiting so long. According to some sources they say that the date is 28th of April, but we will have to wait and see.

I upgrade but missed my gingerbread, jelly bean has many bugs.
