What I'm curious though.. is if the upgrade is directly tied to a line. What I mean is this:
I'm on a family plan, I have 4 lines. I only have a data package on one line, but I've already used the upgrade for that line. What I want to do is use an upgrade on another line to get the discount for a DX and use it on the line I'm already using as my data line. Is this possible and still get the discount.. or will I have to open up another data package line to get the discount?

When you order the phone, then you will need to add the data package with that line (It wont let you buy it without it) But then once you get the phone and activate it, swith that line back to the old phone and it will drop the data package and then you can use the Droid X on your line.
