Help Upgrade to the Indulge?

I've had the Optimus M for a few months now. It's my first Android phone and I have to say it's my favorite one so far. I don't have a problem with the price of the Indulge but I'm really wondering if it's worth upgrading to.

Has anyone gone from the Ascend/Optimus to the Indulge? Did you think the switch was worth it? I'd just like some honest opinions on this phone as well as any little annoyances that it may have besides the 4G killing the battery life.

it's all about 4G, which is the speed of your Internet. so you decide if you want it for the money... Compared to the speed of the Internet you have now, 4G is blazing fast.

I had the Optimus M for a month and its a really good phone, only issues I had with it was that with the 2g internet, some apps would often popup connection message or a please try agian when connecting to the online servers. Even that i was able to deal with. Also i didnt like how flash 10.1 was listed as an addon feature yet its impossable to install. (i could care less about installing flash, but why did they list it in their specs if the phone cant use it?)

Got metro to refund the money for the Optimus M and waited a few weeks for the Indulge. The added processor bump make the phone run a little smoother with lagging UI less offten. The 4G speeds are good in my area so surfing the web on it is good. The added slide out keyboard makes the phone twice as clunky and I still have yet to use it. Some people swear by the keyboard but I just hate them. The camera is farely good and it shoots good quality video, but the light balancing seems a bit off to me. bright stuff is totaly white and when focusing on something bright colors every thing else goes dark(almost black).

Battery life? what battery life? its battery life is good enough to keep it running while moving to the next room to plug it back into the charger. After rooting it and installing overclock widget however the battery life is somewhat acceptable. I got an extra battery to get me through the day.

Basicly if there was no root I would not purchase the phone agian. If you plan to root the phone to extend the battery then I would put it right on the thin line of being acceptable for the price.

my wife bought the optimus at the same time i got the indulge because she didnt need that much of a phone.. i've played with her phone for a few hours, but other than that, i prefer mine.. i like the xtra mhz from the processor and the fact that it downloads to the sdcard , unlike the optimus where u have to move it there.. so if yo're a techy like the rest of us, u'll be glad you got it :)

Mike, what settings do you use for Overclock Widget to get a decent battery life to performance ratio?

After selling my previous phone and buying an Indulge off someone who only used it for 4 days...gave me his receipt and everything...ended up getting an Indulge for much closer to $300 like I wanted. That's a pretty decent price for the phone in my opinion.

But $399 + tax for the Indulge is a rip if you're coming from an Optimus. I don't know what your situation is as far as Internet connectivity goes though. Are you around wifi a lot during the day? Do you have Internet access on a desktop/laptop at work all the time? If you answered yes to either of those questions then there's no point for you to get an Indulge from an Optimus.

Oh and as far as hardware differences are concerned...you already know the only real noticeable one is the processor speed and I think the Indulge is running a better video card too. Don't know if you're much of a gamer, but I've already tried about 7 - 8 graphic/hardware intensive games and while I got some to work, most of them either didn't load or crashed the Indulge. The best looking ones I have installed that run smooth are Need for Speed Shift and Gangstar (GTA knockoff). The Indulge's zooming speed when you use multitouch during web browsing is much faster/smoother than it is on the Optimus...but that's not really a big deal. So it's not like you'd be getting THAT major of an upgrade in the hardware department with this phone either.

If I were in your position, I'd keep the Optimus and wait and see if they release an LTE phone w/AMOLED, flash camera, and Android 2.3. If you just can't take the slow Metro 1X speeds any longer and aren't around wifi that often...wait for the price of the Indulge to become more reasonable and then buy it, or get a barely used one like I did.

It does the same as the optimus. app file gets downloaded to SD and installed to Phone memory. You then have to still move it to SD if you want the app installed to the SD.

I am around WiFi a lot and I didn't like the no AMOLED screen when it first came out. Putting it that way, I guess I would be looking to upgrade for a small amount of reasons (smoother Pandora streaming, 4G speed, and the slide-out keyboard). I've read that Metro's supposed to be coming out with about a half dozen Android LTE phones by the end of this year. I really hope it's true. Thanks for the honest, logical opinion.

Mike, so true. You don't use the full 1000MHz on the phone's processor?
