Upgrade W\ Couple Questions...

Hey, long time, but still see a lot of great information here! I'll make this a quick one as I just upgraded, through a VERY long process of trying to find the right phone, from an LG Tribute 1 to the LG Tribute Dynasty. The main reason the search was extensive was due to trying to find the right Virgin phone that could be rooted. So far no good, so I just went with the LGTD.

I got it nice and tweaked and organized, but figured I'd still hold out hope on any suggestions root related. I checked through the forum and google and nothing extensive, which sucks b\c King Root worked so well for the Tribute's 1 and 2. My friend who mods a lot said that the manufactures are really cracking down on this apparently, related to the boot loader or some such; I'm not as techy.

And the second issue would be, if there's no hope root wise for the LGTD, any suggestions on a reliable system \ phone wide ad \ spam blocker? I got REALLY spoiled with Ad Away but oh guess what, it's root only!

Either way thanks in advance everyone!

I think it's really Google actually, because AFAIK since Android 6.x Marshmallow it can no longer be rooted and compromised by so called "one click" app only exploit roots, like KR. I'm sure it was done as a security measure because of malicious apps that might use root exploits to install their payloads.

I use a VPN(ExpressVPN), which I find is actually quite effective at ad blocking and stopping tracking. And as it's running on a server, it means I don't have to do anything to my computers, phones and tablets.

Can't help you with root but faced with the same situation after updating and un-rooting my S5, I found Blokada on F-Droid. It's a no-root VPN/ad-blocker with preconfigured blacklisting that's been working as well for me as AdAway.
edit- Mike and I posted at the same time.

@mikedt – Wow, gotta love that! When I first used it a couple years ago, the simplicity blew me away! And yeah, my one friend had mentioned something about a VPN, but do you mean on the cell itself or everything in your home?

@fox (Agent) Mulder – Great stuff! It reminds me of another app I recently tried with varying success… Took a little tinkering, and might need to do some more of that, but as it is it looks like it works pretty well… I like a clean desktop \ drop down menu, so I’m not nuts about the key but you know what, I can live with it!
