Upgrading a week before NE2 date - any tips?

So for a while now I have been very eager to upgrade my phone to a Motorola Droid. Currently I am using a dumbphone (lg chocolate) that i basically am totally sick of. We just added my fiancee to my plan and upgraded her to a Droid Eris.

I went a couple of weeks ago to see if I could get them to do my new every two a few weeks early, and I had similar results at every store I tried (best buy, a 'premium retailer' down the street, and an official vzw store). VZW said i could do an annual upgrade and forfeit my 50 bucks from new every two, but they wouldn't budge on the date. Best buy said they could do it on the 9th (10 days before my date), and the premium retailer said the 5th (2 weeks early).

So I went on the 5th and got shot down. When they called to try to move my date the person on the other end (a supervisor) said the best they could do was a week early.

I'm going to try best buy on the 9th - but I'm afraid I'll get told the same thing. How can I get them to let me do this early? I know I'm being impatient, but it's the principal that's bothering me :)

They seem reluctant to let me do this even though it is in THEIR interest because I'm trying to give them a boat load more money - moving up from a dump phone. I've expressed that I'm not happy with my current phone, and I've been with them for at least 6 years, never missed a payment, etc.

Meanwhile, I read stories all over the forums about people walking in and getting their dates pushed up by two weeks or more. What am I doing wrong here? Maybe I'm being silly and I should just wait - but at this point I don't want them to win ;)

Also, as an alternative, can best buy do an annual upgrade? I was told that I could do one and I would be OK with forfeiting the 50 dollar discount if I didn't have to deal with a mail in rebate.

I am in same situation. My NE2 date is 3/15. I have an LG dare and I'm sick of it. Can't wait for my Droid. I have talked to several retailers and nobody can do anything before that. I called Verizon customer service about 3 weeks ago and they told me they can do it 30 days early!! So I'm counting down the days to 2/15. You may want to call them directly. You have to wait for shipping but give it a try.

wow, what did you do to get them to allow that? I've been bugging them and they wont budge on my new every 2 date.

I just finished speaking to them and they ended up letting me do an annual upgrade even though my account wouldnt have normally been eligible for it. I have to forfeit my $50 new every 2 discount, but at least this way i don't have to deal with mail in rebates or going to the store. To me that's worth it, but I'm still rather annoyed that they couldn't just move my date up by 12 days.

Oh well - I'm getting a droid on Tuesday now and that's all that matters I suppose.

Went to a VZW store today with my LG Dare that won't charge any more. My NE2 is up in two days and they wouldn't even let me do it.. Not that I wanted to anyway, there's no way I'm getting the Eris or Droid with new phones on the way in the coming months.

Really? I don't see anything better than the droid coming to Verizon in the foreseeable future - maybe the Nexus One, but it's so similar to the droid that it basically comes down to preference of physical vs. software keyboard.

Also, what is CMO?? I don't understand why some people seem to have no problem getting things done early, while others (like me and the guy above me) don't get any slack. Funny thing is I've been on Verizon for like 6 years now and have never missed a payment. Seems like crap customer service to me for them to not bend the rules even just a little for an account like mine.

But whatever, the phone is finally coming tomorrow and I'm sure I won't care about all of this anymore once I have it :)

Yes, I just can't see myself with a Droid because I don't need/want the physical keyboard and just think it would add useless wait for me and I don't want an Eris because of the slow processor, so I'm stuck waiting for awhile haha. But I hope you enjoy your new Droid! I know it's an awesome phone :)

I had a month until I could upgrade from my lg dare. I called up CS and told them my phone was having problems receiving text messages (which it was), and that it had already been replaced previously for the same reason. He offered replacement under warranty, but I asked if I could just upgrade early to a smartphone. He asked which one, and I had my Droid within a week. He did have to submit it through his manager though, which is why it took a week to be delivered.

I tried previously to upgrade early in the Corp Store back when I had an enV, and they won't budge no matter the reason (my phone wouldn't hold a charge). Just call CS a few times and someone may eventually pull some strings for you.

I'd venture that being considerate and respectful to the person you are talking with goes a long way, too. Those people eat enough crap from angry customers everyday; the last thing they need is another one.

I have a question along these lines: If you use the annual upgrade (there by forfeiting the NE2 discount), would you still get to upgrade on the NE2 date, 8 months or however long later?
