Upgrading and Rooting not all that easy

Either i'm just dumb as a rock or some people seem to leave out details in giving instruction.

I was told that I could force upgrade my phone. It's been a week and I still can't seem to find the right way to upgrade my phone, cause the instruction are not clear and or the terminology is so far beyond me, that it makes me afraid to even attemp to do this.

Anyone know of any good clear source that might help me on this?

I have a G1 and want to upgrade to the 2.2 verison I believe. I hear the folks at Cyanogen have a working Froyo on a G1, but even their site is losing me with thier posting and videos from toosmartguys. errrrrrr!

I've not tried 2.2 on it but have Cyanogen 4.6 which is 1.6 I worried I'd brick it putting on the Danger file so I'm sticking to 1.6.
 
I was able to root my phone to RC29 as they said would happen, but i'm unable to get the software I need from the market. I think I have found someone, that I will speak to tomorrow morning would does this kinda thing for people, if they ask. I hope that this guy name Tim can and will do it for me at a cheap price.

Its easy to misread these guides and its prolly best to get someone to show you how to. In saying that I had little problem rooting and putting C 4.2 on but my hand was in my mouth most of the time! I was bricking it so to speak
 
Well I think I found my problem. So I was using the wrong SPL with the rom I want to uses. and many said that using the SPL I need is very dangous to bricking my phone. o-well
