Upgrading Android 5 to 6.0- any tips please?

I have Galaxy with Android 5 and want to upgrade to Android 5.1 or 6
with the upgrade option in control panels.

The question - should I do this and are there any potential problems with such upgrade?

I’m not a techie, just ordinary user.

which phone do you have. upgrading would vary depending on the phone.

As I recall, that was a very smooth upgrade. Most issues in an upgrade are with 3rd Party apps that are not yet optimized for the new OS. Since you're talking about Lollipop and Marshmallow, it's a safe assumption that the apps you use have long been optimized for those. Upgrade away and enjoy the newest features!
