Help Upgrading Android on Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1

I have a Samsung Galaxy note 10.1 that I got about 4 years back. I have never upgraded the OS and I would like to know whether it is possible to upgrade it to the latest android OS.
1. If so which one I should go with (marshmellow or lollipop).
2. What are the pros and cons
3. Are there any reliable installation articles that anyone could reccomend?

What is "the latest" will depend on the model. The second version got 5.1 about a year ago, not sure what the most recent for the original was but it will be 4.something. Nothing later was officially released, though if you are desperate you could visit xda-developers & see whether there is a more recent custom ROM (if you are willing to root).

my model is gt-n8010 with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. But there are some apps that I cannot install on this version. This is why I thought of upgrading (if possible)
