Upgrading - Family Plan Questions (Smart and Non-Smart Phones)

Okay, here's the deal.

My wife had a POS LG Ally that wouldn't work more than 20 minutes a day. She's not due for an upgrade until the end of February and I couldn't stand her not to have a phone... so I wanted to get an iPhone for simplistic use.

Went to VZW.com and they had the iPhone 4 8GB iPhone for $99, then for the heck of it went to BestBuy.com and looked at their prices. They had the 16GB iPhone 4 for the same price.

No brainer, bought on BestBuy.com and used my line for upgrade as it was currently eligible.

Activated the phone under her number from VZW.com's site, then powered on the new iPhone, *228, voila.

Logged into my account the other night and noticed that it still has my line listed on VZW.com as being eligible for an upgrade plus my $50 discount. She is also being shown as eligible for an upgrade in February still and our home cell line (non-Smartphone) is eligible now.

All that said, my question is this. I'm probably going to upgrade to an iPhone 4s using my line again via Verizon to get the $50 credit.

Say in six months, a year from now... if I want a new phone, can I use the line for our home (again not a smartphone) to get a new Smartphone and just activate it on my line and not add an additional data plan.

Recap:
Me - Smartphone
Wife - Smartphone
Home Cell- Dumb phone.

Upgraded wife with my account for new phone via BB.com, will upgrade my phone with my discount via VZW.com, wondering in 6 months if I can upgrade using my home cellphone line and activating it under my line without incurring an additional data plan.

Sounds confusing, I know, but wanted to reach out to the community.

Thanks.

I only perused what you said...... but if your only question is whether you can update your (currently dumbphone) home line when its eligible (which since its a dumbphone is NOW) in 6 mos then switch the new phone to your line without adding an additional data plan then heres how it will work:

when you upgrade the homeline to a smartphone it will automatically sign you up for a data plan on that line......... then when you get home you switch the dumbphone back onto that line and activate the new phone on your personal line

when you reactivate the dumbphone onto the home line it will automatically remove the data plan....... now Im not sure with the new data plans how they work it...... the old way you were pro-rated for how ever many days/how much data was used......... with the new way I would assume you would pay the full amount for 1 month of data plan service for whichever data plan you put on when you activated the new phone (obviously you would have them place the cheapest plan available at the time on there)

so long answer short...... yes you will probably have to pay for 1 month of data service...... no you wont be stuck with an additional data plan for the life of that contract

and you thought what you wrote was confusing :)
