Uploading pix

Hello,

I have a Galaxy J7 phone and a W7 computer and I need to upload the photos off of the phone to the computer. I got to the point on the phone where it was looking for the network to upload to….but I didn’t see either my computer or my WiFi network. Yet, the router (broadcaster), the computer, and the phone (in my hand) were less than 2 feet from each other. Wouldn’t one or the other show up on the phone when it’s looking for places to upload to? Don’t know where else to ask….Or if this is the proper question.

A usb cable or a card reader (if the photos are on the removable card) will probably be less fuss and faster.

But when you say it "can't see" your computer or WiFi, what do you mean? That it cannot connect to your WiFi at all, or when you use some app (which you've not identified) and tell it to "upload" the photos it doesn't suggest your computer as a destination (you can't upload to a router)? If the latter, what app are you trying to use, have you shared your computer's drive on the LAN, have you set it up as a network volume on the phone?

Thank you for asking specific questions, and I'll try to answer the best I can. First of all, I tried to use the app that came with the phone, I believe a standard Android app, but I don't know for sure. When I do that, several networks appear, ones that I've never seen before. None of the ones I see regularly are there. My LAN isn't there either. I think I have to do something on the computer, but don't know what. Can I upload to the router? And then get them with the computer? How? I don't think my computer's drive is shared on the LAN, but how to tell? And how do I set up a network volume on the phone?

I agree it would be easier to just upload over USB, but I can find *nothing* on this in the manual for the phone. On my old Android Galaxy it was easy, and also explained in the manual.

Ready to learn.....

Thank you very much.

I'm going to suggest a completely different solution for you to access your J7's photos from your Win7 PC. Install the Google Photos app on your phone, and let it automatically backup and sync your photos into your online Google account.Once that's set up you can then access your entire photo library from your computer, or any computer even away from home, by using a web browser.
Not to be snarky or dismissive, you do have a lot of misconceptions on home networking in general so perhaps using a WiFi file transfer app, or a file manager app with networking capabilities, or USB connectivity just isn't the best solution for you. That being an unfounded assumption I'm also assuming (please correct me if I'm wrong) that you don't have any kind of extensive backup solution implemented on your phone. If you're just taking photos for just casual use it might not even be an issue for you but if you take a lot of irreplaceable family photos, relying on any smartphone for long term archiving is a big, big risk. Phones can be lost, stolen, or just unexpectedly fail in what appear to be random ways so backups are important.
Anyway, install the Google Photos app from the Play Store:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.photos&hl=en_US
Be sure to go into the app's Settings menu to set it up and configure the various options to suit your particular needs. If you have a lot of photos note that the initial backup uploading could take a while but once done, you can either access your photos from your phone like you typically do but now you can also use a web browser on a computer by logging into your account:
https://photos.google.com

When you say you use "the app that came with the phone" you still haven't said which app that is. I would assume a file manager (Samsung call theirs "my files" I believe) but maybe I'm wrong and you are trying something different? Seeing other networks but not your own suggests it might not be the file manager you are using, but I'm not sure fair with au fait with Samsung apps (if it's a Samsung phone it's at least as likely that anything built in is a Samsung app rather than a standard Android one).

Photos would indeed provide a straightforward way of doing this, and giving you a backup at the same time.

And no, you can't upload to a router. That's just a WiFi hub and an interface to your ISP, it doesn't have a drive. And your computer's drive will not be shared by default, you'd have to set that up.
