I'm hoping my next phone will have USB-C (I'm waiting til Android 9 is out and it's on lower mid range phones (Like my Huawei P8 Lite 2017), which is still awaiting the Oreo update, I thought that all phomes were supposed to get a t least 18 months of updates starting with those that had come with Nougat.
I'm afraid that it's still up to the manufacturer to deliver updates. Google can advocate, but unless they are going to withhold their services completely from manufacturers who don't provide updates (which carries risks for them) there's not much they can do to force manufacturers to support their devices.
