USB cable

Hello, I am curious why that some USB cable but others don't. I tried out about 10 USB cables, they all work with transfer data from my Mac to HD. However, when I play with the Android Studio 3.0, I uploaded some of my old codes, only 2 out of 10 of the USB cables work. (I enabled USB debugging through out the test.)
Why? Thanks.

I have the same problem with some of my cables too. It's one of universe's biggest mystery.
