Help USB Connection Mode: Charge Only (v4.4.4)?

On my previous phone (Samsung Galaxy Proclaim - StraightTalk), I had an option in the developer tools or maybe in the USB connection options to set my phone to only charge (no data transfer) when plugged into a USB device (like my car's stereo head).

See, this was great because I could plug in my phone to charge without the stereo head trying to recognise the device (and then failing). When this mode was off, any time I plugged in my phone, it would automatically change the stereo and it wouldn't recognise the phone then I had to click the source button multiple times to get back to CD or radio.

Well, does a similar option exist in Galaxy S5 (Kitkat v4.4.4)? Because, I am on the road a lot for my job and I am getting sick of constantly having to change the source on my stereo head...

In Developer Options, USB Debugging mode is available.

Perhaps turning that ON will accomplish what you want. I should think that would do the trick.

Well, developer options are hidden on this phone, you unlock it by pressing on something (I forget what) 7 times.

However, I already had figured that out and tried it, doesn't work. The stereo still tries to read the device when plugged in. :/

I mean, turning on USB debugging on my previous phone is what did it, but it doesn't with this one.

Yes, there is a similar option. Just use a USB cable to connect your Samsung S5 to computer. When it's connected, you can pull down the notification center from the top to bottom on your Samsung S5. Then, you get a notification, like "Connected as a media device", or "Connected as a camera". Tap the option and you get 3 choices: "Charging device only", "Media device(MTP)", "Camera (PTP)". Tick "Charging device only". Then, next time you plug into a USB cable to computer, it's only charged.

First, the problem is plugging it into my car, not my computer. Second, I don't have the option "charging device only" no matter what I plug it into, only the two options MTP and PTP.

That's the only options that come up regardless of whether or not I am in developer mode.

This screen shot I took just now, plugged into a computer and is identical in my car:

Also, my phone is stock, Verizon 4.4.4 baseband NI2 out of the box, since I know each carrier likes to screw up the base Android with their own UI and system changes.

Sorry for that. My Samsung S5 runs Android 4.4.2. I think there is a little different from yours. In your case, you can turn off USB debugging to see whether it works.

Nope, it is the same whether or no USB debugging is on or off.

I guess it just doesn't have that mode? Well that's something stupid of them to have gotten rid of...

why would they get rid of it? :(
Not really sure but I bet it was tied to UMS (USB Mass Storage mode) - because what state did you have to be in as soon as you ejected the phone from the pc? (while the pop-up to choose was active)

The development choices had to be automatically connect as charge only while awaiting a selection or don't connect.

Strip out UMS support code and what's left?

Easy Street for them, that's what.

Purely a guess on my part but makes sense.
