I recently purchased the note from att and my wife bought me a few accessories from amazon. One of the accessories that came in the bundle was a usb host mode cable. I've googled for answers but couldn't find anything with details for what its for. Im not new to android and rooting, as Ive owned a few devices over the years and last one being the galaxy s2 on sprint. If anyone can explain to me whats the use for the host cable it would be greatly appreciated. Thanx in advance.

BTW I love the galaxy note!!! I sold my iPhone 4S to get it and Im happy I made the switch!!

I am not sure, but I believe that it would be used to connect the Android phone to a laptop computer so that the phone can be used a wireless modem. As a former Blackberry admin for the company I work at, I do know the Blackberrys came with a cable that allowed the Blackberry to be connected to a computer. I also know that Blackberrys do have an ability to be used as a modem.

My thinking it that the cable you are referring to is used for the same purpose. From experience, however, I would caution against using the phone as a modem for a computer, because it uses a lot of data and cause data overages.

Devices that has USB On-The-Go can be USB host and USB client.
But they have to know which role (host or client) they have to play.
Therefore are the USB cables are used.
Look for 'Device roles' and 'Plug' in the article ...
USB On-The-Go

The new Androids tablets usually have USB On-The-Go
