usb ringtones

okay i did a search for this and came up with nothing so I apologize in advance if you find somethign that I am missing.

im new to the droid world having come from a good relationship with Maemo. i noticed that when i am plugged into the computer via usb, the custom ringtones i implemented change to what I would suppose is a default status since I store them on the sd card and i am plugged in using the card mode.... so my question is, is there a way to alter the factory set tones with my own or even better copy them into a root folder so as to avoid this? where are the factory sounds stored?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

many thanks!

/system/media/audio/notifications is where you'd have to put them. IIRC you need to root and enable write to /system.

You have to be rooted first. Then download Root Explorer, navigate to the system folder, enable R/W, then do what you need to do. Be sure to change it back to R/O after you are done.

Is there a file explorer type app that does not require root, and allows you to search for a file by (partial) name?

I tried FileManager, but no luck on the search.

Thanks ... Mike
