USB tethering with Galaxy Tab and Windows 7

I have a galaxy tab with Froyo and I'm trying to get on the internet with my non-wireless desktop through USB tethering. In the settings menu of the tab, I can click on usb tethering, but it doesn't seem to affect my computer at all. It recognizes when it's plugged in, so it seems to be working somewhat, but there is no notice on my computer that a successful connection has been made, and no internet surfing is possible.

Any ideas on how to overcome this?

Nope. That's required, hey? Even with the option in the Settings menu? Lame.

You can use PDAnet or Easy Tether to do it for free. You can also root and tether wirelessly for free.
