Help Use My Phone As A Flash Drive

Morgoroth

Lurker
I have an HTC OneX, (the slightly older one) and I used to be able to use my phone like a flash drive.
When I plugged it into a scanner for instance, I could use the mass storage option to have the scanner save the files right to my phone.

Now, there has been an update and the option has been removed.
I'm not rooted, but are there any apps or anything I could do to bring this functionality back?

I don't do it a lot, but it was nice to be able to do.

DriveDroid allows you to use your phone or tablet like a thumb drive, you can use ready to go images of various Linux distros to boot a computer or you can create a blank image that you can store files to.

You need to be rooted, and because it stores then data on your device in image format the files are not really accessible on the device.

Many newer devices are doing away with traditional USB host function in favor of MTP because it is generally safer to have the device manage and share its data without the possibility of data corruption from a computer crashing or the device not properly unmounted when disconnected.

Thanks! I'm not rooted, so I guess I'll just have to use a flash drive.
