Using a cassette adapter

I found an interesting "feature" in the Samsung Indulge's audio jack.

My car has a combo CD/cassette player and I've used MP3-cassette adapters in the past with various phones. This permits me to use the phone as an MP3 player in the car, and when I receive calls the audio plays through my car's speakers. (The phone's built-in microphone is used for my audio).

With the Indulge (not sure whether or not this also applies to other phones) make sure that you use an MP3-cassette adapter that has a standard 3 conductor stereo (TRS) plug, NOT a 4 conductor (TRRS) plug. The four conductor plug will deactivate the Indulge's microphone and you will only be able to hear the person you're talking to; your end will be muted.

I'm driving a '96 Saturn SC2 and it has a cassette player in it. It's annoying though, 'cause I can't really afford to put a DVD/new stereo system into it (nor do I really want to 'cause of the value of the car). I live with the radio.

I have a tape player in one of my cars as well. 99 crown vic and still running strong as ever.

2002 car with combo cassette and CD player. The cassette is quite useful with the stereo jack adapter. Obviously it would be nice if the radio had an audio input jack.

If I had a car with a radio without a cassette or audio input port I would either exchange the radio or modify it myself to add an audio in port, they're rather useful. Before I had a cell phone with a 3.5 mm plug I used the cassette adapter with my MP3 player.

I found a little FM transmitter at Wal Mart for less than $20 (iirc). You can change it to a bunch of different stations, so you can always find an open (unused) FM station. I plug it into my truck mounted laptop's earphone jack, and it outputs all my tunes or whatever from the laptop out over the truck's speakers. But you could just as easily plug it into your phone, or any mp3 player, etc. It's a handy little thing! Runs on 2 AAA batteries.
