Using amazon to upgrade a line then using the phone on a different line...

Only other thread I could find an answer on this was doing this on Verizon.

I want to do this with AT&T, well my sister does anyway. One of her lines is eligible for an upgrade on 4/7/2011 and she wants the Motorola Atrix 4G. I know if she buys it in an AT&T store the reps can easily activate the phone on her line (the primary).

I want to know if the same can be done with an upgrade done thru amazon. She wants to do this thru them because they currently have a sweet deal on it for 129.99. Any info will be appreciated. Finally got her to leave her iPhone. Ugh thank god for that.

shouldn't be a problem, I used to do it all the time. All you have to do is switch the SIM chips from her active line to the new phone; she doesn't even have to go to the AT&T store. They may add a Data Plan to the one she orders though. Make sure she does not activate the SIM chip that comes w/ the phone, it will zap her old on and she will have to go into the store.

So don't activate the new don at all? Just put her current sim in it and activate it? Awesome. Thanks for the info man.

no need to "activate" her current sim; it is valid and that is what ties her phone to her account. AT&T & TMobile make switching phones quite easy. I keep a spare or two at the house, just swap over the sim when needed.
