using Direct Call

How exactly does Direct Call work? It only seems to work half the time I try to use it, and the half when it doesn't work is invariably when I'm trying to demonstrate the feature to someone or just look cool while nonchalantly calling someone. I usually use it when I have a text from someone open, and when it doesn't work it just sends me to the message detail screen as if I had tapped the message (presumably I do tap it with my face). My understanding is that it makes use of the prox sensor to detect when your face is close to the screen, but does it also use some kind of gesture to detect when you're swinging the phone up higher and changing its orientation or something? That might explain why it's inconsistent, because I'm only sometimes making the exact gesture it wants when I bring it to my ear.

I think it only uses the sensor by the top of the phone to detect if your face or a body part gets close that sensor.

I just tested it with the first 10 people on my messages. And it worked perfectly. I bring up the message. Take the phone close to my ear (not touching). It vibrates ( I know it calls) then I push it up to my ear. No problems.

I will say I even got it to work while holding the phone up to not just my face. That tells me its just senses that you have decreased the distance of the phone from your body.

what is direct call?

Stock message that I know of so far. Doesn't work on Go SMS pro (bummer). I wonder if it ever will be available?

Direct call is when you have a text message of a person open and you motion the phone like your picking up a call and it automatically dials the person you are texting.
