Using Droid in the car (music)

Hello everyone.

I just recently bought an Droid and love it. However, I'm really interested in being able to use it to listen to music in my car. This has probably been asked many times, but I'm curious. I'm very new to the "smart phone" world, so links to products would be helpful. My friend had an ipod and had something to plug directly into the cigarette lighter input. Then he turned it to a certain station and you could hear the music through the speakers. Thanks for any help!
 
You have a couple of options.

If your deck has an aux (normal headset input) then you can get a double ended aux cable and just play through the speakers. This should net you the best sound quality.

If your deck supports Bluetooth, you can stream music over Bluetooth in the same way. This should net you the next best sound quality.

If you don't have those choices, your final option (that you were referring to) is to broadcast your music from the Droid on an FM station. Check out this thread for some product ideas and discussion about them.

Or if your real cheap and your base model dodge truck came with a tape deck you can get one of those cassette aux converters.

Ive had a few of my friends tell me its been a long time since they have seen one of those, but then I show them how cool pandora is and they let me get away with it.
 
...and if your head unit supports USB mass storage devices you can mount your Droid's CD card and play the music on it. Apps (Pandora, etc) won't play via USB though.

FM transmitters should be your last resort. Unless maybe you live in the sticks where there are no radio stations.

QFT ... Just bought a new radio for my old truck, and I opted for a cheap tape-deck model for exactly this reason. I'm going to be streaming from my phone, so I don't need USB, MP3, or even CD ... just need a way to get the audio to the amp!

You might also want to check out: the headset buddy. It allows you to split the mic off as well, so you can wire in a mic to be on your dash, or visor, or whatever and be totally hands free. I have one in my car, strapped to my dash mount. Absolutely love it!
 
well when the headphone jack is in use the microphone goes to speaker phone status anyways. this works since i leave the phone in my center console. its some crazy stuff though when you have you speakers turned up and the phone rings! Very loud.
I do like this for my computer too. When im at it i usually am streaming music over the computer speakers, or if im making a call doing it over the computer speakers. this. is the only phone i have ever been able to use speaker phone on and not have the person on the other line complain i sound too far away, or they hear themselves echo, or they hear way too much background noise.
