Using Exchange as a calendar in Android 5.1.1

I have had a Moto X 1st Gen and been very happy with it Yesterday I bought a Nexus 6 and the hardware is great but I have found it more or less unusable because of the calendar. I need to use Exchange for my calendar and cannot get it to work on this thing. I have spent hours searching the web and trying things, including uninstalling and reinstalling accounts and apps. Nothing works.

I am only syncing calendar on Exchange, not Gmail. I even added another Gmail account. What seems to be happening is that it is syncing with Exchange but not with either Gmail account. But when I go into the calendar app itself it only gives me the option of displaying one of the Gmail calendars under settings, not the Exchange calendar (nor subcalendars). From what I can tell both mail and contacts are syncing fine with Exchange and show up in their respective apps as they should.

Any help appreciated, I would really like to stick with Android but need to have a calendar.

I may have fixed it. It seems okay now. I had to do a factory reset. Then in set up skip the Google set up and add the Exchange account information and sync everything on that account. Then I added the Google account and didn't sync calendar and contacts. The down side is that it didn't automatically reload all my Google stuff, apps, passwords and such, from the backup. But that is a small price to pay for a functional calendar. On the plus side I can start from a cleaner place in terms of getting rid of some old stuff.
